Well probably continue to see a drawn out salmon run. Theres not a lot of fish spawning or even many zombies yet so that tells you things are progressing slowly. Flows in the Oak are medium and mostly clear. Stream Conditions - Fish Oak Orchard A cooler, gloomy day today (Monday) with forecasted warmer days ahead mid week with chance of precipitation and windy conditions around Wed, Thurs. Fish have been taking mostly spoons with a few meat and flasher/fly mixed in. Thanks to Ernsts and NYSDEC and hatchery personnel and the receiving party getting the fish to this point. Point Breeze/Orleans County/east side boat launch is still closed while construction is hopefully soon to wrap up. Get the drift or swing down and checked and slowed a bit and you can find a head shaking steelhead on the take. Shouldnt be any serious icing in yet but there could be some bank ice or chunky flows. A good head of turbine water lending fishy water and cover for fish to be anywhere in the water course they would want to be. Always the chance at some fresh steelhead migrations that should only improve as we get into the later winter. Warmer temps near 70F are in the forecast for the weekend. After a quick hit of real cold weather this past weekend, we are back to mild temps that are forecast at least thru this week. Any significant precipitation could bring flows quickly back up and off color. Since we are not getting cold temps and/or snow, hopefully we can get rain along with the warm temps to help maintain flows. This will go down as a trip of a lifetime for them as well as for us. Strong upstream headwater supplies are likely driving the water feed below the dam. Flows in the other area smaller waterways did bump up slightly from the most recent precipitation but seem to be sliding back to medium ish for now. Any future accumulating snow and melt may do that. We are hearing of a few more browns now in the Oak, especially thru yesterday. With no real winter to come out of and trib and open lake water temps all on the warmer side, who knows for sure how the steelhead gods will play things out over the next couple months?! Fishing pressure is light to moderate with what looks like a few guys here and there probably enjoying holiday time off. Suckers were more numerous too. Not sure yet how much of a change in flows in the Oak well see, but with the precip received so far it shouldnt be bad enough for a blow out. Next better chance at real rain is this weekend. Well have to wait and see how much flows will change but it should bring flows up high but not blown.
